Today is my Tutu’s Birthday! She won’t tell me how young she is. I also haven’t asked since I was about 10 years old. Here are some pictures from our trip back home in December 2009. My Tutu taught me how to play the ukulele. The first instrument I ever played and the only one I still play. I love you Tutu.

This clock was a permanent fixture in my Papa and Grandma’s House. It hung in the kitchen in which many family events centered around. Holidays, weekend get togethers,  etc. As far as I can remember, this clock has hung in the kitchen, to the left of the sink, above the pantry. It was wired directly into the house. The power cord ran high on the wall and then entered it at some point. This wire however was not too conspicuous for it was covered in layers of paint also older than myself. After my grandfather passed I remember my aunties and uncles talking about the will and how things were going to work out. I’m not sure what prompted me to ask, but as the adults were discussing details of the will I somehow interjected and inquired about the clock. I’m not positive who answered me, or what really even happened next. All I know is that presently I have the very clock that hung in my grandparents kitchen for decades.

I’m not sure what attracted me to this hunk of brittle plastic with drips of paint on it, but I was entranced. Maybe it was as simple as the saying written beneath a smiling face, or maybe it was the color I liked, who knows. Many years have passed since I aquired this clock, and through those years I have realized that this clock that used to hang in the kitchen was probably one of the most gazed at objects in the entire house. everyone has looked at it and it always looked back, always smiled. This may seem trivial to some, but that may be the reason I wanted this clock. I ma not have known it then, but now, every time I I look at it all I can think about is the many times that my papa. grandma, aunties, uncles, and cousins must have looked at it. All the answers it has given. All the memories it has sen. It is wonderful to think about, and it always makes me smile.

Currently, the clock is not being used due to the motor not working properly. One day though it will tick away as it hangs on my kitchen wall, for all to see and for it to see all, as it once did decades ago.
